300 kids go to kindergarten surrounded by a sea of rubble

Kids at a kindergarten in Chengdu, provincial capital of Sichuan Province, had no option but to have their class surrounded by a sea of rubble after the surrounding area was demolished.

Pictures uploaded online on Friday by a user who called himself “nieky” showed the bleak scene, as students were forced to gather in the single remaining building surrounded by a wasteland. The kindergarten, with a playground attached to it, has also been identified as a dangerous building.
A notice issued by local authorities on October 16 was seen outside the kindergarten, saying if parents continue to send their children there, they do so “at their own risk.”
Parents said earlier that they had been told a demolition program would start by “around the end of the year,” and the kindergarten promised they would relocate the kids to a different campus, a plan which was never realized.
A housing management authority said a demolition program cannot start unless the entire neighborhood agrees to it.
It is also learned that the principal didn’t reach any consensus with the local administration over compensation fees, so it is likely that the “rubble kindergarten” standoff will continue for at least few more weeks.
