Ali Abdullahi, 2 years old, eats ready-to-use therapeutic food for treatment of severe acute malnutrition at the UNICEF-supported Primary Health Clinic at the Muna Garage internally displaced persons’ camp
in Maiduguri. “I have been given 21 sachets of the food for my son and told to bring him back after seven days for follow-up,” says Fatima Mustapha, Ali’s mother, relieved her son will not die. UNICEF and partners intervene to address the malnutrition crisis caused by the insurgency in the northeast. A total of 105,285 children with severe acute malnutrition have so far been admitted to therapeutic feeding programmes in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states in 2016.
