US President Donald Trump signed an executive order to withdraw the country from the Trans-Pacific Partnership
US President Donald Trump signed an executive order to withdraw the country from the Trans-Pacific Partnership(TPP) on Monday in Washington.
Trump heavily criticized the pact during his presidential campaign and made a video message after his win in November, stating that he would drop the trade deal on his first day in office, to protect domestic jobs.
The TPP is a proposed deal consisting of 12 countries, including Australia, Japan and Malaysia, which account for 40 percent of the global economy. However, for the treaty to come into effect all 12 countries need to ratify the proposal, and Trump's withdrawal from the deal is likely to put an end to it.
