NPFL: ABIA WARRIORS CONTINUE LOSING STREAK

ABIA WARRIORS

Abia Warriors succumbed to a third-straight league defeat as Ibrahim Alhassan's double and Moses Ebiye's first goal of the season earned Akwa United a 3-1 victory over the Umuahia side.
Alhassan curled into the bottom right corner from just inside the box to give the hosts the lead in the 11th minute after some nice build-up. The goal was received with tumultuous applause.
Just after the half-hour mark, the equaliser arrived. Moses Omoduemuke tried to bend a shot into the far post. Goalkeeper Emmanuel Iwu dived to save but ended up spilling the ball into the path of Sunday Adetunji, who made no mistake from six yards.
Moments later, Adetunji had a chance to put his side in the lead. Semiu Laidi, who had a torrid opening hour, slipped and lost possession to the Abia Warriors striker. However, Godspower Igudia came to the rescue of Abdul Maikaba's side.
Two minutes before the break, Alhassan scored his second of the evening and fourth of the season to restore Akwa's advantage. Ebiye picked out the midfielder. The former Wikki Tourists man coolly controlled before firing beyond the helpless Agbor Ekoi.
And five minutes after the interval, goalscorer Alhassan turned provider, setting up Ebiye who rounded Ekoi before slotting home.
Shout for a penalty after Alhassan's cut-back appeared to be handled was turned down by the referee.
