Speaking on the monthly report of the activities of destitute and beggars in the State, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Pharm. (Mrs.) Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf said the recent report based on the data collated indicates that the activities of destitute and beggars are on a downward trend.

In her words, “Considering where we were before and where we are now as shown by the statistics, it is evident that we are making progress. With this, we are confident that if we continue the relentless implementation of our plans in this regard, the menace of street beggers and destitute will be completely eradicated from our State.”

She, however, appealed to members of the public to cooperate with the government by giving alms to the less privileged in the society only through registered charity homes and other such organizations in order to curtail and totally eradicate the social scourge.

Akinbile-Yussuf also averred that government will continue its rescue operations of innocent children use by some beggars to perpetrate their illegal acts, adding that the government also intends to rehabilitate arrested beggars and destitutes at some of its training centres across the State.
