These jaw-dropping images show a courageous young woman swimming with sharks as part of a project to prove the animals are friendly and not deadly.
Underwater model Irina Britanova, 27, mingled with tawny nurse sharks in the Maldives.
Britanova, who regularly poses for aquatic shoots, managed to hold her breath at a depth of about 17 meters so the images could be captured. In some frames, she gets close enough to sharks to hold on to their fins and be swept along for a ride.
According to the International Shark Attack File, there were 81 unprovoked shark attacks on humans worldwide in 2016, with four of them fatal.
