Ten feared dead, dozens missing in Goa bridge collapse

At least 10 people were feared dead and several others were missing after a bridge collapsed on Thursday evening in Curchorem of India’s western state of Goa, the Times of India reported.
The 30-meter steel footbridge collapsed at around 6:30 p.m. local time when about 50 people were standing on it to watch firefighters recover the body of a man who had committed suicide.
Reports said several people managed to swim to the bank and 15 others have been rescued. But several people were still missing.
Local official Sudin Dhavalikar said the bridge had been closed for four years, but people keen to witness the body’s recovery removed barricades to access it.
Indian Minister of Home Affairs Rajnath Singh promised a thorough search and rescue operation.
