10 Philippine soldiers killed, 8 wounded in 'friendly fire' air strike

Ten soldiers have been killed and another eight injured in a “friendly fire” air strike in the Philippines’ southern Marawi city, defense secretary Delfin Lorenzana said on Thursday.

Lorenzana expressed remorse over the incident, which he said took place on Wednesday.
The Philippine armed forces are attempting to use ground operations and helicopter air strikes to recapture Marawi from the ISIL-linked Maute militant group which has occupied the city for more than a week.
At least 129 people have been killed, including 89 Maute members, 19 civilians and 21 police officers and soldiers in the conflict.
