Former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, the architect of German reunification, has died at the age of 87

Mass-selling Bild newspaper reported on its online edition that Kohl died in the morning in his home in Ludwigshafen, in western Germany.
Khol was a driving force behind the introduction of the euro currency and convinced Germans to abandon the deutschemark.
Helmut Kohl served from 1982 to 1998 making him Germany's longest serving post-war chancellor.
