New York, the fourth most populous state in America, uncovered anti-competitive legislation Tuesday to prohibit 14-year-olds from getting married.

Governor Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, signed a law on the age of consent to marry between the ages of 14 and 18, with the proviso that 17-year-olds who wish to marry must obtain parental approval and 'a judge.

"This is a major step forward in our efforts to protect children and prevent forced marriages, and I am proud to sign this law that ends the marriage of children in New York once and for all," he said. .

Until Tuesday, children in New York over the age of 14 could marry with parental consent and the written consent of a judge.

More than 3,800 miners were married in New York between 2000 and 2010, according to Cuomo's office. Children under 17 are now banned from marriage. "Everywhere in the world, a girl under the age of 18 is married every two seconds. It's a national shame that so many of these marriages happen in the United States," she said. "We hope that the 47 states that still have to act will follow the leadership of New York."

Nearly a quarter of a million children under the age of 12 were married in the United States between 2000 and 2010, mostly adult male daughters, according to Unchained, a non-profit organization working against organized marriage or strength.

A survey published by the Tahirih Justice Center in 2011 stated that forced marriage existed in immigrant communities in 56 different countries and affected people of different denominations, including Muslims, Christians, Hindus and Buddhists.

The Cuomo office said that young women who marry before age 19 are 50% more likely to leave school and four times less likely to graduate from college. Those who marry young are also at increased risk of developing health problems, 31% more likely to live in poverty when they are old, and three times more likely to be beaten by their spouses than women who have Less than 21 years of age ..
