With English Premier League club Liverpool already in the running with the Hoops for the Aspire Academy product, confirmed interest is now coming from the La Liga outfit.
The Spanish club, according to Scottish media outlet Daily Record, are in search of young talent at this stage of the year in a bid to restructure in the summer and Onyekuru has joined their list of targets.
Celtic, as reported by 234football, had a bid rejected for the African attacker during last month’s transfer window with his club KAS Eupen refusing to sell.
Onyekuru went AWOL for several days in the hope of pushing through a transfer to Glasgow, but the Scottish champions were unable to secure a transfer before the window closed as the hitman was retained in Belgium to see out the remainder of this season.
Reports from Europe claim the want-away striker has been promised the opportunity to leave at the end of the season and is understood to be open on a move to Glasgow.
However, the opportunity to play in the glamorous Spanish top flight may also appeal to Onyekuru and become an issue for Celtic if they choose to pursue the switch and try again in the summer.
Onyekuru scored his 11th league goal of the season on Saturday, in the 1-0 win at Gent.
