Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has felicitated with Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, who turns 83 today (July 13), describing him as a global icon of humanitarian service.

The governor, in a statement, said Soyinka has devoted his life to the emancipation of the oppressed, enthronement of democratic rule and improvement of the welfare of the human race.

According to him, the literary giant is a foremost wordsmith, playwright, poet, political activist and human rights advocate, whose works are targeted towards the good of the downtrodden.
"Soyinka, despite age and time has still not relented in fighting for sustainable democratic rule and good governance. He laboured for an independent Nigeria and has continued to defend it's survival, through his opposition to misrule.

"The Nobel Laureate, conspicuously joined forces with other true democrats to selflessly bring about a truly democratic Nigeria.
"Your birth place Isara, Remo and Ogun State, are proud of you as we join others globally to celebrate you at 83. We pray for more strength and wisdom as you march forward as a soldier with good conscience", the governor concluded.
